Fri Jan 17deadline to accept (not the decision date)

The Ombudsman does not print a decision date. The date above is the deadline the consumer was given to accept or reject the decision, which is set about a month after it was issued. It is reliable to the year, not to the month.

What this decision was about

Account closed or refused, Charges and fees

In the Ombudsman’s words

Barclays first raised concerns about Miss M’s account in September 2007. Miss M moved house in May 2008 and says she did not receive any letters between then and October 2009. It is not however unreasonable to conclude that she was aware of the issue from the correspondence sent before she moved house. She also has a responsibility to monitor her account. Miss M does not dispute that she did not keep to the repayment arrangement agreed in October 2009. So I consider Barclays is entitled to close the account.Account closed or refused
I am satisfied that under the terms and conditions of the fee, Barclays correctly applied the fee for each five day period when the account was in reserve.Charges and fees

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN2840560.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
