Wed Oct 01deadline to accept (not the decision date)

What this decision was about

Unauthorised transaction, Account closed or refused

In the Ombudsman’s words

I think it’s more likely than not Mr M was dishonest in spending the funds on his credit card, and knew the direct debit would be reversed. And therefore, he was spending funds which Halifax never agreed to lend him.Unauthorised transaction
Halifax blocked the card and completed a review. As part of the review, it didn’t reach out to Mr M, but based on the information it already had it made the decision to withdraw the account.Account closed or refused

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-5737425.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
