What this decision was about
Charges and fees, Interest and rates
In the Ombudsman’s words
Barclays has applied arrears charges of £40 per month to Mr and Mrs L’s mortgage on numerous occasions. I am not satisfied that these charges have always been applied fairly and reasonably in the circumstances of this case.Charges and fees
I do not think that it is fair and reasonable for Mr and Mrs L to be charged interest on their mortgage in respect of charges that are refunded. I think that Barclays should also refund any interest that has been applied to the mortgage in respect of those charges.Interest and rates

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN7841919.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
