What this decision was about

Card dispute or chargeback

In the Ombudsman’s words

complaint Mr A has made against Clydesdale Bank and I have not considered any complaint he may have with P. I have every sympathy with Mr A, but I find myself in agreement with the adjudicator. It seems likely that Mr A has been the victim of scam. However, that doesn’t make the bank liable to cover his losses. It provided the service he requested in paying money over to P. It was P that paid the advertising company and any claim Mr A may have lies with it. However, I note that it has declined his claim because he delayed acting until its 180 day deadline had expired. Furthermore, a claim for a chargeback has to be made within 120 days of the transaction and Mr A only complained to the bank in August, more than six months later.Card dispute or chargeback

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN7300423.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
