What this decision was about

Charges and fees, Service failure

In the Ombudsman’s words

Barclays also accepted that it hadn’t warned Mr J about some charges he could face if he didn’t supply an international bank account number. It has offered to refund those charges.Charges and fees
There’s no dispute in this case that Barclays made a series of mistakes. It told Mr J that the best way to make a transfer to an overseas account was to use a mobile cash transfer service. But it didn’t tell him that he couldn’t use his euro account to make that transfer.Service failure

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN4599978.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
