What this decision was about
Charges and fees, Mortgage administration
In the Ombudsman’s words
Mrs F complains that HSBC Bank plc continued to accept payments through a debt management plan for many years after it had written off the debt. Mrs F wants this money – about £8,000 – returned to her.Charges and fees
The bank acknowledged that it should have passed the account to debt collectors in 2006 after it defaulted Mrs F’s account. It did not do this but, instead, it kept the account on its own records.Mortgage administration

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN4472726.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
