What this decision was about

Charges and fees, Mortgage administration

In the Ombudsman’s words

Mr W complains because Yorkshire Building Society charged him £820 for a valuation fee.Charges and fees
He had initially approached a different lender, and had a valuation from that other organisation. Yorkshire’s telephone advisor initially said Mr W would be able to use the existing valuation for a fee of around £100, but this was subsequently corrected and Mr W was told he would have to pay for a new valuation.Mortgage administration

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN4220342.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
