What this decision was about

Unauthorised transaction, Complaint handling

In the Ombudsman’s words

Mr and Mrs H complain that Barclays Bank PLC wrongly allowed transactions totalling over £300, relating to membership of rewards programmes, to be debited to their account.Unauthorised transaction
I do find Barclays’ handling of the matter to have been poor. Incorrect information was provided initially by the bank, and raised false expectations in Mr and Mrs H that they would receive a full refund.Complaint handling

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN2904144.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
