What this decision was about
Credit file reporting, Mortgage administration
In the Ombudsman’s words
Halifax said that at the time Mr A applied, it wouldn’t lend more than 85% of the share being purchased, on a shared ownership property. And it wouldn’t lend over 85% unless someone’s credit score was high enough. It confirmed that Mr A’s credit score was high enough for lending over 85%, the problem was just the sort of property he was buying.Credit file reporting
Mr A complains that Bank of Scotland plc trading as Halifax told him he couldn’t qualify for a mortgage with only a 5% deposit, because of his credit file.Mortgage administration

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-3583843.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
