Financial Ombudsman decision DRN-3573457 Upheld
Upheldoutcome, as published by the Ombudsman
—no sum stated
Wed Oct 12deadline to accept (not the decision date)
The Ombudsman does not print a decision date. The date above is the deadline the consumer was given to accept or reject the decision, which is set about a month after it was issued. It is reliable to the year, not to the month.
What this decision was about
Account closed or refused, Funds blocked or frozen, Payment delayed or failed
In the Ombudsman’s words
NatWest decided to withdraw its services from Mr C. The bank wrote to him on 9 July 2020 to say that it would be closing his account in 14 days’ time.Account closed or refused
While the account remained open, NatWest had applied a restriction to it meaning that Mr C couldn’t access the balance of around £1,100.Funds blocked or frozen
I do, though, think that NatWest delayed the release of Mr C’s account balance unduly.Payment delayed or failed

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-3573457.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
