What this decision was about

Charges and fees, Complaint handling

In the Ombudsman’s words

Mrs W complains Bank of Scotland trading as Halifax (“HBOS”) unfairly charged her interest on her credit card account after returning a payment she’d made to clear the balance.Charges and fees
Unable to resolve things, Mrs W asked our service to look into her complaint. Our investigator didn’t uphold the complaint as he didn’t think HBOS had done anything wrong. And he thought it was unlikely it had switched Mrs W to paperless statements without her agreement. As Mrs W didn’t agree with our investigator, the case has been passed to me.Complaint handling

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-2594240.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
