What this decision was about

Mortgage administration

In the Ombudsman’s words

Mr and Mrs S complain about a mortgage they held with Bank of Scotland plc trading as Halifax (“Halifax”). They say Halifax’s refusal to release the deeds of their repossessed property prevented them remortgaging. They also say Halifax sold the property for less than its value, leaving them liable for a shortfall.Mortgage administration

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN9871601.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
