What this decision was about

Mortgage administration, Complaint handling

In the Ombudsman’s words

This complaint is about Mr K’s mortgage with HSBC Bank plc. He’s unhappy that HSBC didn’t tell him about his mortgage arrears building up and it took legal action to repossess his house.Mortgage administration
When Mr K complained to HSBC, it said several letters regarding the mortgage account were issued in joint names, to the updated address his wife had given the bank. It admitted this was an administrative error and offered its sincere apologies.Complaint handling

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN9479963.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
