In the Ombudsman’s words

Mrs W complained to Barclays Bank Plc about a payment of £8,000 that she made from her account with another bank, on 20 December 2013, to a third party’s account, held with Barclays. The payment was for the purchase of a car, advertised on the internet, but Mrs W did not subsequently receive the car from the third party and it is generally accepted that the funds were received and withdrawn from the account by a fraudster.APP scam refund refused

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN8757725.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
