In the Ombudsman’s words

Mr C complains that The Co-operative Bank Plc (trading as Britannia) allowed his estranged wife to update his ISA passbooks without his permission. This meant that she knew the balances in the accounts, which Mr C says is private to him. He wants Britannia to compensate him for breaches of Data Protection legislation.Data and privacy

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN4817695.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
