What this decision was about

Treatment in financial difficulty, Product mis-sold

In the Ombudsman’s words

Mr B complains that Barclays Bank Plc forced him into taking out a consolidation loan in 2003 and should have made him aware there were other ways he could address his financial difficulties.Treatment in financial difficulty
I have seen little to show the bank forced Mr B to take out the loan and I consider its recommendation to take a consolidation loan resolved the problems he was experiencing staying within his overdraft limit and meeting his existing loan repayments.Product mis-sold

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN1197213.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
