What this decision was about
Card dispute or chargeback, Complaint handling
In the Ombudsman’s words
Mr P complains about a transaction that was debited from his current account with Nationwide Building Society.Card dispute or chargeback
The phone advisor told Mr P that it’d help him recover the payment. But the bank later told Mr P that this wasn’t right – it wouldn’t be able to help because Mr P had used his PIN to authorise the payment so it wasn’t a fraudulent transaction. Nationwide has apologised for the incorrect information it gave Mr P and offered him £50 compensation for this.Complaint handling

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN0810483.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
