Upheldoutcome, as published by the Ombudsman

The Ombudsman does not print a decision date. The date above is the deadline the consumer was given to accept or reject the decision, which is set about a month after it was issued. It is reliable to the year, not to the month.

What this decision was about

Product mis-sold, Service failure

In the Ombudsman’s words

Miss E complains that Barclays Bank PLC will not replace a cheque which it wrongly sent to her previous address, where it was intercepted and cashed by someone else.Product mis-sold
The bank’s systems records show that it was alert to the fact that the address Miss E was corresponding from differed from the address it held in its records. So I consider that it should not have sent out the cheque before resolving this discrepancy.Service failure

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN0079556.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
