Account closed or refused, Identity checks and access

In the Ombudsman’s words

Mr T complains that Bank of Scotland Plc, trading as Halifax, would not accept his application for a savings account due to his not having a photographic driving licence as ID.Account closed or refused
Halifax had sent Mr T an email outlining what it considered to be acceptable identification and included in this list was “current UK non-photo driving license”. Unfortunately, this was incorrect information and shouldn’t have been on the list of acceptable identification.Identity checks and access

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-4705722.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
