Wed Jan 18deadline to accept (not the decision date)

What this decision was about

Account closed or refused, Credit file reporting

In the Ombudsman’s words

Nationwide Building Society initially approved his application for an account but then soon afterwards reversed their position and declined it.Account closed or refused
the account was still reported to Mr L’s credit file by Nationwide. This shouldn’t have been the case, and so I will be upholding this complaint in Mr L’s favour on this limited basis and instructing Nationwide to remove this account from Mr L’s credit fileCredit file reporting

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-3816671.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
