In the Ombudsman’s words

NatWest says that it applied the CIFAS marker because Miss R received fraudulent funds into her account. So, I’ve looked at whether NatWest was fair to apply the marker, based on the evidence it had, and the investigation it carried out. ... Given these findings I consider it also had grounds to decide to close her account.Account closed or refused

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-3688342.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
