What this decision was about

Card dispute or chargeback, Product mis-sold

In the Ombudsman’s words

Mr D complains that HSBC Bank UK Plc (“HSBC”) has refused to refund several payments he made to a fraudulent company (Boss Capital). These payments were made using Mr D’s HSBC Mastercard and Visa credit cards.Card dispute or chargeback
I am satisfied that Boss Capital breached the above contractual obligations. It follows that as a breach of contract can be identified, Mr D’s loss amounts to the full amount of each of his deposits.Product mis-sold

Rules cited

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-3425458.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
