What this decision was about
In the Ombudsman’s words
Barclays says that it applied the CIFAS marker because Miss E received fraudulent funds into her account. So, I’ve looked at whether Barclays was fair to apply the marker, based on the evidence it had, and the investigation it carried out. ... In the circumstances it made a decision to close her account and I find that it was entitled to do so in line with its terms and conditions.Account closed or refused

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-2835497.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
