APP scam refund refused, Complaint handling

Miss M complains that HSBC Bank Plc (trading as First Direct) is holding her liable for a debt on her First Direct account. Miss M says she is the victim of fraud and wants HSBC to refund the money that was in her account before the fraud happened.APP scam refund refused
It is unfortunate that having passed a large debt to HSBC’s recovery section in November 2008, it was early 2012 before anybody was able to make contact with Miss M.Complaint handling

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN7118589.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
