What this decision was about
APP scam refund refused, Complaint handling
In the Ombudsman’s words
Mr O complains Bank of Scotland plc (trading as Halifax) gave him wrong information about a bank transfer. He says he relied on what he was told, and lost money as a result.APP scam refund refused
Halifax says it can’t interfere with a payment made by bank transfer. It accepts Mr O may not have been given clear advice. But, it doesn’t believe the cashier would have told Mr O that a bank transfer gives the same protection as payments by debit or credit card.Complaint handling

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN5633809.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
