What this decision was about
In the Ombudsman’s words
Santander had cause to be vigilant and reason to suspect this transaction may not be genuine. And it couldn’t have known whether it was or wasn’t until it could confirm the circumstances of this transfer with Mrs C. For these reasons I’m satisfied that delaying this payment until it could speak to Mrs C to confirm its authenticity was a reasonable precaution for Santander to adopt here.Payment delayed or failed

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN5327051.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
