What this decision was about

Irresponsible lending, Service failure

In the Ombudsman’s words

I considered that the bank had an obligation to register true and accurate information about how Mr N had managed his account. It appeared he had defaulted on the loan and this was not because the loan was unaffordable from the onset.Irresponsible lending
I was persuaded by Mr N’s account about the bank providing him with wrong information about his cheque. I also accepted it had given him the run around and had been unhelpful when he tried to track down the cheque.Service failure

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN5106736.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
