What this decision was about

Credit file reporting, Complaint handling

In the Ombudsman’s words

Santander says that Mr S’s credit limit was reduced after it received incorrect information from credit reference agencies showing that he had defaulted on a number of unrelated accounts.Credit file reporting
I also consider that the account limit was reduced without warning and this was a breach of the terms and conditions of the account. On that basis I consider the £85 the bank has offered (£10 for costs and £75 for distress and inconvenience) does not go far enough.Complaint handling

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN4348709.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
