Thu Oct 20deadline to accept (not the decision date)

What this decision was about

Irresponsible lending, Treatment in financial difficulty

In the Ombudsman’s words

Mr A complains that APFIN Ltd – which trades as cashasap.co.uk – didn’t carry out proper checks before it made a series of loans in 2014 and 2015.Irresponsible lending
I think it was reasonable for APFIN to take that at face value – initially, at least. But by the middle of 2015 Mr A was – if he was to be believed – incurring unexpected expenses almost on a monthly basis. So, whatever Mr A said about his situation, I think APFIN should have realised he was having difficulty with his borrowing.Treatment in financial difficulty

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN3549398.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
