What this decision was about

Credit file reporting, Complaint handling

In the Ombudsman’s words

Ms D complains that Tesco Personal Finance PLC (Tesco) undertook three credit searches in her name – without informing her – when she applied for a credit card. She wants these removed from her credit file as she says they’re affecting her ability to get credit.Credit file reporting
Unfortunately her complaint wasn’t looked into for nearly two months but when it did respond Tesco said that it had conducted the searches in accordance with its terms and conditions and had made Ms D aware at the beginning of the call that searches would be undertaken. It did however accept that it should have registered Ms D‘s complaint earlier and paid her £25 compensation for the delay.Complaint handling

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN1853833.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
