What this decision was about
In the Ombudsman’s words
I think proportionate checks would’ve shown Mr B was spending a substantial amount of his monthly income servicing short term credit commitments by borrowing from multiple lenders just so he could repay previous loans. This combined with his normal living costs and other regular financial commitments, meant he didn’t have enough to be able to pay these instalments without it adversely affecting his financial position.Irresponsible lending

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN0677153.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
