What this decision was about
Irresponsible lending, Support for vulnerable customers
In the Ombudsman’s words
Mr S complains that Nationwide Building Society provided him with extensions to his overdraft facility limit. Mr S says that manual checks of his bank account would have made it clear at the time the credit was being offered to him that it was not affordable.Irresponsible lending
Mr S’ statements during this time would’ve shown gambling transactions. But considering all the account activity, there wasn’t enough to indicate to Nationwide there were signs of financial difficulty that should’ve prompted it to alter its course.Support for vulnerable customers

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-3427947.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
