What this decision was about
In the Ombudsman’s words
I understand that Mr D says he met the advertised criteria to apply for the loan but that doesn’t mean that the business would necessarily approve his application and I’m not persuaded there is evidence here that Creation rejected Mr D’s application because of his age. I think the questions they asked him were in line with what I would expect other applicants to be asked. Mr D is concerned that the rejection of his application will make other lenders consider him a bad credit risk. Whilst it would be usual for the business to report his credit enquiry to the credit reference agencies, I don’t think that would identify him as a bad credit risk and I can see Mr D has provided information that suggests his credit score remains excellent.Credit file reporting

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-2376650.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
