What this decision was about
In the Ombudsman’s words
This case has involved failings by Lloyds. The mistake which meant Mr S’s safety deposit box wasn’t available to him when he wanted it, really should have been caught by Lloyds staff before he went to collect. I think this caused Mr S considerable distress at the time. So I think Lloyds needs to pay compensation for what went wrong then. I think that a payment of £250 in compensation for the failures which meant Lloyds didn’t retrieve the safety deposit box in time, is reasonable.Service failure

This page summarises the Ombudsman’s published final decision. The document itself is the record: DRN-1337256.pdf on financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
The outcome shown is the Ombudsman’s own published classification, not our reading of the text. Nothing here is legal advice, and a decision concerns only the complaint it was made about.
